Why it is so durable
Fusing the minerals under heat and pressure leaves a surface with almost no pores, which is what makes it so hard to mark.
Resists heat
Fired far hotter than any kitchen. Warm plates and serving dishes are no worry, and trivets keep very hot pans in check.
Scratch resistant
Hard and dense, so it stands up to cutlery and everyday use. Just keep the chopping for a board.
Will not stain
Non-porous, so wine, coffee and cooking oil cannot soak in. Spills simply wipe away.
Easy to clean
Warm water and a soft cloth is all it needs. No sealing, oiling or polishing, ever.
Colour that lasts
The pattern is fired in, and our 5-year warranty covers fading from sunlight.
Hygienic
With no pores for food or bacteria to settle in, it is a clean, safe surface for family meals.
How it compares with quartz and wood
Quartz and solid wood are the other popular choices for a stone dining table or a family table. Here is how they stack up day to day.
| BeMade ceramic | Quartz | Solid wood | |
|---|---|---|---|
| Hot dishes | Copes well with heat | Resin can scorch or discolour | Marks and rings easily |
| Spills and stains | Non-porous, wipes clean | Low porosity, wipes clean | Absorbs spills unless sealed |
| Scratches | Highly scratch resistant | Good resistance | Dents and scratches |
| Sunlight | Colour will not fade | Resin can yellow over time | Darkens or bleaches |
| Upkeep | None beyond wiping | None beyond wiping | Regular oiling or polish |

Travertine effect
Warm, layered and calm. The travertine dining table look, with no natural holes to fill and nothing to seal.
Onyx effect
Glowing swirls of cream, gold and blue. A real centrepiece for the room.
Granite and quartzite effect
Bold mineral pattern and colour, from deep green quartzite to sandy speckled granite.
Dark stone and slate effect
Charcoal, bronze and oxidised tones for a moody, modern dining room.
Grey stone effect
Soft, easy greys that suit almost any kitchen or dining room.
What is sintered stone, and what is ceramic?
Sintered stone and porcelain are both ceramic surfaces. Natural minerals such as clay, feldspar and quartz are pressed together and fired at extreme temperatures until they fuse into one solid, dense slab, with no resin or glue holding them together.
Our tops are large-format porcelain made in exactly this way. You will see this family of materials sold as sintered stone, ceramic or porcelain dining tables, and the strength comes from the same firing process.
